Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the international relationships of Great Britain and other European countries during the period between the two World Wars. Researching the failure of the Versailles contractual system and the unavailing efforts to save the power balance in Europe by British ruling circles, in spite of the growth in military forces and the consequentially the threat from Germany and Italy. The Abyssinian crisis 1935-1936 is considered to be a turning point in British diplomacy as it revealed the helplessness of the League of Nations. The Hoare-Laval Pact is a demonstration of the appeasement of Italian fascism and the negative response to it from British and European social and political circles.
