Abstract

In the work, comparative analysis was performed for the mesoscale stress and strain distributions in two-dimensional polycrystalline structures under plane strain and plane stress conditions and in sections of three-dimensional polycrystalline specimens. It is shown that with identical macroscopic loading diagrams, the patterns of mesoscale plastic strain localization in the twoand three-dimensional models display great qualitative and quantitative differences. The same effective response of the materials can be attained with certain mesoscale stress and strain distributions depending on the type of load application and on the specimen geometry (thin plates, bulk specimens, etc.).
