ФРАЗООБРАЗОВАТЕЛЬНЫЙ ПОТЕНЦИАЛ ЛЕКСЕМ, НОМИНИРУЮЩИХ ДЕНЕЖНЫЕ ЕДИНИЦЫ

Abstract

The article deals with the phrase-formation potential of lexemes denominating monetary units in the Russian language. The phraseological vocabulary of the language has reflected the ability of some monetary units to price and to confront different objects’ price. Studying the linguoculturological heritage, it is necessary to mention that the lexemes denominating money, as a part of the phraseological unit, have the ability to price non-material objects. Not all of the money nominations ever issued or being currently used in Russia have become a part of the phraseological unit. Only such former lexemes as rouble, copeck, grosz (half-copeck), lepton (mite), altyn (three-copeck-piece) have received this right, but their activity to form phrases is different. The analysis of the semantic features of phraseological units with the component denominating a monetary unit allows us to come to the conclusion that the major part of Russian phraseological units has a negative connotation, no matter what sphere of life they characterise material or non-material. This fact suggests that in the mentality of the Russian people, there is a derogatory attitude towards money and finance: the preference of material benefits to spiritual wealth and their transformation into goals in life are not just unsupported in the society, but strongly condemned.
