Abstract

The article deals with the semiotic status of a proper name in the composition of English idioms. The main contextualization directions are determined in terms of discourse. Phraseological contexts with proper names are considered as components of mythological discourse. An idiom with a proper name is treated as a carrier of reduced illocution. The terms of “phraseological unit” and “idiom” are treated as interchangeable. The methods of phraseological identification, comparison and analysis have been used in the study.
