Abstract

The paper describes the metaphorical system of the present-day socio-political German communication. Target mapping of the domain “Politics” helps to establish the structural semantic and functional relations between metaphors as well as to carry out their comprehensive cognitive linguistic analysis. The article further dwells on the notion of cognitive scenario, which, in relation to socio-political communication, may be viewed upon as segmenting (target mapping) of the target domain “Politics”. This domain serves as the projecting field of metaphorical images. The article describes such basic scenarios of political and social life of modern united Germany as “The Party System and Politics of the FRG”, “Social Life in Germany” and “The History of the State and Society”.
