Abstract

The reduction of aromatic ketones (acetophenone, p -chloroacetophenone, p -methoxyacetophenone) by yeasts was searched. It has been shown that under aerobic conditions at 30 oC in 0.1 M phosphate buffer (pH 7) in presence of exogenic reducing agent (isopropanol) yeasts cells enantioselectively transforms acetophenone and p -chloroacetophenone producing ( S )-phenyl-ethanol (99% ee ) and ( S )-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-ethanol (97% ee ) respectively after 48 hours of transformation. The searched biocatalyst didn’t show any reducing activity with p -methoxy-acetophenone as substrate.
