This Article deals with poems by R. Kipling which have appeared in Russian translation at the end of the XIX century. O.N. Chyumina's translational concept differs from the original one, she was one of the first to turn to the work of the famous English writer, and we can oversee her desire to be adjusted to the tastes of the Russian reader. Translation of the poem «Cells» by E.M. Stydenskaya is the first attempt to translate «Barrack-room ballads» by R.Kipling.
В статье анализируются стихотворения Р. Киплинга, появившиеся в русском переводе в конце ХIХ века. Переводческая концепция О.Н. Чюминой, одной из первых обратившейся к творчеству известного английского писателя, отличается вольным обращением с оригиналом, стремлением подверстать его под вкусы русского читателя. Стихотворение «В карцере» Е.М. Студенской представляет собой первую попытку перевода «Казарменных баллад» Р. Киплинга.
