Abstract

To determine the role of VNTR-polymorphism of endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene in the development of respiratory-cardiac comorbidity we have studied the frequency of occurrence of 4a/4b and 4b/4b endothelial NOS gene polymorphisms in patients with combinations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease + arterial hypertension (COPD+AH), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease + coronary heart disease (COPD+CHD), bronchial asthma + arterial hypertension (BA+AH), bronchial asthma + coronary heart disease (BA+CHD) compared with mononozology (COPD, BA, AH, CHD). It has been found that 4a/4b polymorphism was significantly more frequently detected both in patients with CHD, and in the group with comorbid combinations of COPD+CHD, BA+CHD. This suggested that the development of CHD in patients with COPD and in patients with BA occurred more often if the patients were carriers of endothelial NOS gene polymorphic 4a/4b genotype.
