Abstract

Information about initiation of railroad transport in the south of Sakhalin island is presented in the article. Role and significance of railroad for region development is outlined including its tourist attraction promotion due to unique tourist objects. As an example of such object authors consider «Devil's bridge» that was erected by Japanese engineers in the days of the Karafuto governorate on the south Sakhalin (1905-1945).
