Abstract

The paper describes the factors of publicity activity of the terrorist organization 'Islamic State' (further IS), banned on the territory of the Russian Federation. The key reasons of its popularity are listed. The illegal activity of this terrorist organization is registered on the territory of the Russian Federation. Social networks are the major fields for placing propaganda materials and spreading radical beliefs. The results of content analysis of extremist video clips containing calls to join the ranks of IS are discussed. It is noted that these video clips purposefully create an image of IS as a constructive organization capable of providing protection and support. In these video clips the need for the presence of IS as the condition of peace and order is stated. The video clips, showing the activities of IS, contain images of violence against members of other religious and social groups, which emphasizes the extremist nature of IS; moreover, in the video clips there is a justification for violence and its ideological (religious) foundation.
