The forms of philanthropic activities are determined and a private form of charity in Tsaritsyn (Saratov province) is described in the article. Besides, the attempts of interpretation of charity as a social phenomenon of provincial society are undertaken. The role of representatives of business world in the development of culture and public schooling in Tsaritsyn are also described in the work.

Определены формы благотворительной деятельности. Предпринята попытка осмысления благотворительности как социального феномена провинциального общества. Рассмотрена частная форма благотворительности на примере г. Царицына Саратовской губернии, показана роль представителей делового мира в развитии культуры и народного образования в Царицыне.
