Abstract

The study examined the content of homocysteine (HC) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) in the blood serum of 102 patients of the main group (54 men and 48 women) with a documented venous tromboembolic event (VTE) and 23 healthy persons, constituting the control group. The study found pathological effect of HHC on the endothelium with the development of endothelial dysfunction, which is accompanied by increased levels of ET-1 in the serum of patients with VTE. This trend is observed for all considered clinical variants thrombosis of the subcutaneous and deep veins, and their combination, as well as in PE. High values of HC and ET-1 showed an unfavorable clinical course of VTE: a combination of thrombosis of deep and subcutaneous veins and the development of deep vein thrombosis complicated by pulmonary embolism. The average content of HC at patients with VTE is to 1.5-fold higher and the average content of ET-1 is 1.9 times higher than in the control group. At conducting the correlation analysis revealed that the content of ET-1 in patients with moderate-VTE is in direct connection with hyperhomocysteinemia in the serum (r = +0,41, p
