Abstract

The typological similarity in epical content and message, motifs and episodes, style features between the Buryat Geseriade and the Anglo-Saxon Beowulfiade are considered. The issues relating to the origin of the epics, cults and beliefs are briefly outlined. I argue that mythological consciousness manifests itself in various heterogeneous and heteromorphous, anthropomorphous, zoomorphous and mixmorphous elements. Note is taken of the unique conglomerate of the elements of natural cults, pagan belief and Christianity («Beowulf»), on the one hand, and the above-mentioned cults and Buddhism («Geser»), on the other hand. Style-forming factors, style feаtures and formal stylistic techniques are touched upon.
