This paper summarizes data about “fast track” and ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) protocols in the field of colorectal surgery for the period from 2005 till 2015. More than 30 scientific papers were analyzed. Data was collected from scientific databases such as PubMed, and Cochrane Library. This review discusses the various aspects of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols. In this paper we consider the use of Fast Track protocols with different points of view: elderly patients and enhanced recovery after surgery protocols, laparoscopic surgery and surgery standards, fast track protocols in emergency abdominal surgery, the influence of various factors on the comprehensive success of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols.
