Abstract

The article is devoted to icons as the universal cult subject in the different world religions and having common historical and cultural features. The author's attention is drawn to the syncretic nature of a number of icons that existed at the transition to Christianity representatives of other religions. The authors note the differences between Catholic, Orthodox and Buddhist icons, and also touch on the subject of Muslim iconography. The relevance and novelty of the research is in the article due to the fact that in modern world, due to growth of ethno-confessional contradictions, increases the need for the study of the spiritual component of religions.
