Abstract

The present study is an attempt to give a verbal description of the religious vocabulary forming the appropriate concept sphere based on two idiolects. The purpose of the article is to the use of the religious terminology in the French society of the 19th and 20th centuries through its reflection in literary sources. Lexical embodiment of religious realities is semantically analyzed here, which helps to reveal the concepts used to build the religious concept sphere of the French language. The theoretical base of the study is the views of linguists, developing in their works the idea of the concept and concept sphere. The practical material is Guy de Maupassant's short stories, and the novel by E. Bazin «Eglise verte» («Green Temple»). The proposed article proves that the studied vocabulary layer is intensively presented in the literature of the 19th and 20th centuries which testifies to the indisputable impact of religion on the society of the above mentioned period of time.
