Abstract

A full denture transmits masticatory pressure through artificial teeth to the denture base, and thence to the underlying mucosa, periosteum and bone. This route of masticatory pressure transmission is an important shortcoming of removable laminar dentures as the oral mucosa has no morphological structures that could cushion the pressure, which leads to mucosa compression, circulatory disturbance resulting in intensified atrophy of alveolar process. A full denture fixed on mini implants reduces the transmission of masticatory pressure to the mucosa.
