Abstract

The article deals with the concept of birch in Soviet popular lyric songs. The sources of this concept in the poetical and musical heritage of classical Russian culture are determined. The connection between the Soviet song lyrics and the Russian professional poetic tradition is shown. Besides, new facets of the birch concept in Soviet songs are characterised (symbol of Russia, Soviet country as a "birch land", etc.).
