Abstract

With the sharp intensification of the expansionist processes caused by the formation of modern nations, defensive mechanisms developed by existing cultures became insufficient. In the first part of the article some (according to the author's opinion) essential contradictions of the formation and functioning of the cultural space are discussed. Those contradictions manifest themselves as in the movement of world culture, as in the movement of national and regional cultural spaces. Those contradictions have universal nature, however, they reveal themselves in the unique circumstances of each culture existence, and therefore require every time a specific solid historical analysis as the scientific basis for the management of cultural process. We examined two aspects of the protection of cultural space: the protection of the cultural space from external expansion and protection of it from chauvinistic nationalist self-delusion and self-destruction. Particular attention is paid to the globalization, geopolitical and regional processes and threats to national culture, the analysis of which leads to the following conclusion. Until, in the depths of the modern culture there will be formed and will be offered a social ideal able to perform the role of the pointer movement having its passionate carrier, (a definitive social community, whose interest matches objectively with that ideal, and, therefore, at this stage coincides with interest of humanity and most clearly expresses it) it is impossible to speak of the nature and content of a new type of culture scientifically, defensibly, and accurately.
