
This article is devoted to analysing the symbolism of colour motifs in the story “Body Art’ from the “Little Black Book of Stories” by the contemporary British writer A. S. Byatt. Special attention is paid to the white — red — black triad, as well as to the contrasts of colour ascetism and diversity of colours, darkness and light, brightness. Colour motifs are an alysed in correlation with interconnected themes (nature, religion, science, art and others) and archetypes. The role of colour in creating and understanding the images of the main characters is analysed.
Статья посвящена символике цветовых мотивов рассказа современной британской писательницы А. С. Байетт Body Art (сборник «Маленькая чёрная книга рассказов»). Особое внимание уделяется триаде белый — красный — чёрный, а также противопоставлению цветовой аскетизм — пестрота, темнота — свет, яркость. Мотивы цвета исследуются в соединении со связанными с ними темами (природы, религии, науки, искусства и другими) и архетипами. Рассматривается роль цвета в раскрытии образов главных героев.
