Abstract

The article deals with the first formation stage of Walter Scott’s medievalism. Scott considered medieval chivalric romances to be important sources of knowledge on historical and cultural context of the Middle Ages. Numerous true facts about real life in “Sir Tristrem”, missing in its French and German versions, allowed Scott to transfer the Celtic legend about Tristrem and Yseult from the domain of pure fiction to the field of historical narration.
