Abstract

The article focuses on the peculiarities of developing professional terminologies which are to be used as fundamental criteria for the standardization the terminologies of this type. The analysis of a relatively young mediation terminology showed the lack of order in this term system that determines the need for a complex linguistic study on content harmonization of developing terminologies. Thus, the aim of this work is to develop an algorithm for unification of young terminologies. As a result, the main issues which are to be resolved before the standardization of a terminology takes place are as follows: 1) unorganized relations within the system, lack of system as such; 2) the terms in the system do not meet the requirements; 3) the acute problem of excessive polysemy and synonymy in the terminology. To address the named issues which, in fact, are negative trends in the system, we propose a scheme of work with young terminologies including reduction of terms in the system according to their requirements for "information quality" and transparent definition.
