Abstract

This work specifies Sergey Platonov’s activity in the Academic Committee of the Ministry of National Education, his role in reviewing historical manuscripts and books, including those by provincial writers. Platonov’s work in the Academic Committee holds a special place in his artistic biography, at this particular time were written by him dozens of ratings and reviews, by which one can not only analyze the opinions of the scientist on specific publications, but also trace the formation and change of views of the reviewer on topical and controversialand sometimes even littleknown aspects of the history of Russia. We note that the majority of them remains unknown and has become involved into scholarly circulation only recently. His little-known response on Vasiliy Samaryanov’s feature story about the Monastery dedicated to the Holy Trinity and St. Hypatius of Gangra, situated in Kostroma, is being newly published by the paper’s author, valuable instructions about this response which, in the opinion of Platonov himself, contains interesting details, substantial advantages and disadvantages. The paper’s author notes that to write the comment, Sergey Platonov, as usual, made inquiries about previous publications on this subject, which, apparently, had also been reviewed and analyzed by him.
