The main thesis presents the concept of inflation targeting (IT). It begins with a brief history of inflation targeting and presents some of its key elements. Based on recent literature it lays out the whole concept of IT mentioning advantages, disadvantages and critiques of the IT model. The main focus of the thesis is the European Union, its monetary policy and what are the current objectives of the European Central Bank.
