Abstract

Research topic is the problem of “musical” painting. The article deals with the specifics of the reflection and refraction of musical genres in painting at the example of studying paintings of M.K. Churlionis “Sonata of the sea” and “Fugue”. The analysis is performed in terms of the synthesis of musical and painting means of artistic expression. The researchers analysed the interaction between music and painting. They showed as in the painting of Churlionis principles of musical formation and development of genres such as Allegro of sonata and Fugue are disclosed. The authors concluded that Chiurlionis in his experiments reached the level of the symphonism as the philosophical and generalizing principle of reflection of spatiotemporal relations in the arts.
