Abstract

Mощева Светлана Васильевна, доктор филологических наук, доцент, Ивановский государственный химико-технологический университет (Иваново), moshevasv@mail.ru Svetlana V. Moshcheva, Doctor Degree (Philology), Associate Professor, Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (Ivanovo), moshevasv@mail.ru Статья посвящена проблематике языковой экономии и ее роли в языке. The article is devoted to the problem of abbreviation and its role in a language. The author analyzes researchers’ attempts to classify this phenomenon. Contemporary linguistics shows special interest in abbreviation due to its multifunctional character. Abbreviation acts as an expressive means or a means of attraction and effort saving, which draws linguists’ attention. The author concludes that numerous abbreviations are a characteristic feature of mass media texts in any modern language. In addition, global integration plays a key role in intensifying abbreviation processes.
