The article is devoted to the problems of sustainable development of Russian metallurgical companies in the context of new transformational trends. The relevance of the study is explained by the need to use the ESG concept for the effective long term functioning of enterprises, taking into account the increasing uncertainty of the external environment. New approaches to doing business and compliance of companies with ESG principles make it possible to achieve not only economic and social goals, but also attract additional investments, strengthen business reputation, and improve the image. The article discusses various approaches to understanding of the essence of sustainable development of an industrial enterprise based on the review of domestic and foreign publications; analyzes the state of the Russian metallurgy, taking into account the increasing influence of the geopolitical situation on the Russian economy; identifies the main problems of the industry, which made it possible to develop the author's classification of the factors of sustainable development of metallurgical enterprises. The proposed recommendations are aimed at solving the problem of sustainable development of enterprises based on ESG transformation in a strategic perspective.
