Abstract

The BA paper is devoted to the deconstruction of the image of the Soviet man in the works "The Suitcase" and "The Zone: A Prison Camp Guard's Story" by Sergei Dovlatov. The author aims to identify and analyze the main aspects of the image of the Soviet man in Dovlatov’s works. The author highlights the following points: what features characterize the image of the Soviet man, how these features are incorporated into the text, how the image affects the narrative in the works presented. As a result, the author concludes that the image of the Soviet man created by Dovlatov is not homogenous; some of the features vary according to the circumstances surrounding him. The study may be useful to philologists dealing with similar issues, as well as to all readers interested in the topic.
