Abstract

The article focuses on treating personal names as condensed ethnic cultural texts. Structural and semantic characteristics of English anthroponyms of Germanic origin are viewed in respect to the way they reflect the basic features of Anglo-Saxons’mythopoetic mentality. The author advocates the idea that anthroponym as a language unit is the element of the discourse environment within which it functions and realizes its sociocultural potential.
