У статті на прикладі освітньої та наукової діяльності авторів західноукраїнських грама- тик української мови другої половини ХІХ – поч. ХХ ст. (М. Осадци, Г. Шашкевича, П. Дячана, О. Партицького, О. Огоновського, С.Смаль-Стоцького, Ф. Ґартнера, В. Коцовського, І. Огонов- ського та О. Поповича) розкрито їхні погляди щодо самостійності української мови. З’ясовано, чому праці цих мовознавців були заборонені як наукові джерела в радянську добу. The article considers the views on the independence of the Ukrainian language of the authors of Western Ukrainian grammar books of the Ukrainian language of the second half of the 19th and early 20th century (M. Osadtsa, G. Shashkevych, P. Dyachan, O. Partytskyi, O. Ogonovskyi, S. Smal- Stotskyi, F. Gartner, V. Kotsovskyi, I. Ogonovskyi and O. Popovych) on the example their educational and scientifi c activity. It has been found out why the works of these linguists were banned as scientifi c sources in the Soviet era.
