Abstract

This paper is devoted to the analysis of functional and semantic properties of the conjunction et ‘and’ in the Middle French language at the level of a complex sentence. It is established that the conjunction indicates a temporal, adversarial, comparative relationship, as well as a relationship of consequence and concession between the combined propositions. It was revealed that the conjunction et ‘and’ functions in complex hybrid and simplified syntactic constructions
