
Durante el mes de junio de 1984, 34 pacientes del Hospital St.Clare's (Nueva York,EE.UU.) fueron tratados con cefotaxima I.V.Se controló a los mismos con el objeto de verificar si la administración se ajustaba a reglamentos existentes y referidos a presencia de organismos susceptibles, dosis, control de la función renal de reacciones adversas, duración y efectividad de la terapia. El 47,06 % de los casos se ajustaba a lo establecido, mientras que el 52,94% no lo hacia por haberse usado el antibiótico en casos en que éste podía ser reemplazado por otro. Esto inmplicó un despilfarro de U$S4.456,53. Se estableció entonces un formulario para la prescripción de antibióticos con el objeto de controlar la situación.
At St. Clare's Hospital (Ncw York, U.S.A.), during June 1984, 34 patients underwent an I.V. therapy with cefotaxime. They havee been followed up in order to verify if the administration of the drug was in accordance with the prestablished rules regarding :presence of a sensible bacteria, dosage, renal function status, adverse reactions, duration and effectivity of the therapy, 47.06% of the cases were in accordance and 52.94% weren't. In all those cases, another antibiotic could have been used ; U$S4,456.53 was the amount spent in an inadequated therapy. Consequently, a new antibiotic prescription form was created an put into use
