Abstract

Abstract. Teeth that receive orthodontia treatment are subject to a series of procedures that implicate the modification of the tooth enamel structure. The attachment and de-cementation of braces imply maneuvers that affect this structure. lt has been reported that while de-cementing brackets, cracks o fractures can be produced in the tooth enamel which are visible under a microscope. Nevertheless, the processes of dental cleansing and resin withdrawal also bring upon some sort of damage to the enamel structure. The current work seeks to repair damage in the enamel such as cracks or fissures that present themselves after the de-cementation of metallic brackets, applying a re-mineralizing substance (RS) over the vestibular surface of premolars extracted for orthodontia reasons. Initial images were taken following the removal of the residual resin. The substance was applied for 3.5 hours and the teeth were washed. Afterwards, these were observed under an electronic microscope (SEM type) to evaluate the repair of previously established cracks. Furthermore, a chemical composition analysis by X-Ray dispersive energy (EDAX) was performed on the teeth after the application of the RS. The results show evident repair of some cracks that displayed reduction of thickness and size. Otra
