Nonlocal theory of longitudinal waves in an elastic hollow bar

Abstract

V ABSTRACT in the present study, an investigation on the longitudinal waves in an infinite circular hollow cylindrical rod made up of an homogenous, isotropic, elastic material is carried out. By the use of the nonlocal constitutive equations and the Fourier transformation of the equations of motions, a system of two differential equations is derived and solved. Existence of a nontrivial solution, satisfying the conditions of the traction- free boundary of the rod, leads to a dispersion equation, that shows the dependence of the phase velocity to the wave length.
