Iraq crisis: relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America during the war in Iraq

Abstract

The article discusses the internal situation in Saudi Arabia before the war in Iraq in 2003, during the war, in the post-war period, and also talks about the nature of the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, as well as the nature of the relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States of America in the framework of the organization of oil-exporting countries (guardianship) and the impact of war on world oil prices. The author tells about the attempts of the US administration to send multinational forces to Iraq in cooperation and coordination with Saudi Arabia and reveals the reasons for the failure of this plan, proposed by Washington. The author examines the difference between the interests of Americans and Saudis, and as a result, the Americans support the Shiite expansion in Iraq, and then the seizure of power by the Shiites in Baghdad and the impact of this situation on the course of events in Iraq after the 2003 war. The author notices that the Saudi regime has considerable potential; it is able to respond to external and internal challenges and is ready for a certain transformation for the sake of self-preservation. However, for Saudi Arabia, which aspires to a certain freedom of foreign policy maneuver, it is not indifferent how the situation around Iraq will develop, how the Arab-Israeli conflict will be resolved.
