Czy wiedza leczy demokrację?

Does knowledge heal democracy?

Czy wiedza leczy demokrację?

Abstract

The article focuses on the transformation of the status and functions of knowledge in modern, functionally differentiated society. In particular, the author reflects on the relationship between the changes in knowledge – its functions and nature – and populist tendencies in politics in recent years. The author formulates three hypotheses regarding the possible connection between knowledge and the rise of populism. Their basis is a more general diagnosis of modernity drawn from the works of Niklas Luhmann and the interpretation of Luhmann’s concept of social inclusion. As the author of the article concludes, in the modern era inclusion occurs on an unprecedented scale, and this process changes the forms of knowledge distribution and its nature. According to one of the presented hypotheses, these transformations may influence the self-understanding of citizens and political communication.

Artykuł dotyczy przemian statusu i funkcji wiedzy w nowoczesnym, zróżnicowanym funkcjonalnie społeczeństwie.
