The paper presents a novel adjoint variable method for efficient estimation of \(S\)-parameter sensitivities with the time-domain transmission line modelling method. A minimal number of adjoint simulations is required relative to the finite difference approximation. The approach is illustrated through the estimation of \(S\)-parameter sensitivities with respect to the discontinuities of a waveguide filter.
