This paper presents a short history of data compression and encryption technologies starting with World War I and their possible value today by resurfacing old and forgotten algorithms as an increased security shell possibility for modern data files storage. It focuses on a case study using available internet tools as of 2016 and emphasizes on the results which relieve a blind eye over old and dusty data compression and encryption algorithms following data encapsulation, therefore showing the possibility of adding easily an extra security layer to any contemporary cutting-edge data protection method. Keywords: data compression, archive, security, data protection, encryption algorithms.
