Les grands événements sportifs représentent un vecteur de positionnement des destinations touristiques et de valorisation des territoires, améliorant leur image et leurs infrastructures. Cependant, ces événements peuvent également susciter débats et conflits territoriaux, comme observé lors du Championnat du monde d’équitation 2022 dans la région des Castelli Romani en Italie, classée zone protégée mais aussi très proche de Rome. Les tensions entre les acteurs institutionnels et les associations environnementales révèlent des divergences, notamment en ce qui concerne la préservation de l’environnement naturel et l’usage des espaces protégés. Cette étude met en lumière l’importance d’une approche géographique pour comprendre ces récits et contre-récits des parties prenantes.
