Abstract

The purpose of learning or strengthening knowledge in different areas through the use of technology has been carried out using academic technological tools, whether through websites, applications, or serious games. However, students sometimes find it challenging to use these tools because they do not recall the concepts that help solve problems. Therefore, this research will develop a new section on mathematical concepts for a serious game that helps strengthen logical-mathematical reasoning through the Design Thinking methodology. First, a survey will be applied to 23 students after using the application (Empathize) to understand the issues that prevent students from progressing (Define). Then, the way to assist them will be determined based on how (and where) to visualize the information they need to know (Ideate), and later, it will be developed and implemented in the serious game (Prototype). Additionally, two evaluations will be conducted to determine whether the section helped users solve system problems (Evaluate). For this section’s evaluation, a learning test and a usability test were carried out with groups of 32 and 35 higher-education students. It was determined that there was a significant improvement in learning among students who used the serious game, as they progressed in complexity levels compared to those who did not use it or lacked the new section.
