Astronomical features of Ural megalithic monuments orientation

Abstract

In the upper river Iset first in the Urals over the past two years was found more than one hundred megalithic objects of natural and anthropogenic origin, which have a classification of not less than five species. Today here archeologically studied seven of the three types. This is menhir, stone of the boulders and completed tunnels. Menhir, or standing stones not less than one meter high are located on the slopes of the not high mountains. The time of their installation and operation is not defined due to lack of finds in them, but the landscape position and orientation of their planes on the sides of light and reveal their astronomical function. Dolmen boulders type in most of them are also located on the slopes is not high hills with different orientation of the entrances. Studied group of buildings have entrances to the longitudinal axis oriented in the direction of north-south, east-west. According to findings of fragments of pottery of the Neolithic, Eneolithic and stylized zoomorphic figures granite stone can be dated, the IV III millennium BC. Tunnel (natural slot cavity, overlapping stone slabs) on the shoreline island «Stone tent» one entrance is oriented to the north and the other to the west. Beside the northern entrance wore found the ceramics of the Neolithic (late fourth millennium BC) until the early Iron Age. Not investigated tunnels are located on the slopes and peaks dominate the landscape of mountains and on a number of signs may have astronomical significance. All of the investigated objects, as well as their own territory of the area about 100x30 km, show clear signs of the archaeoastronomical characteristics that will be discussed in a forthcoming report.
