Neural Networks in Documentary Television Films: Trends and Prospects

Abstract

The paper studies the use of neural networks in modern documentary films — both foreign and domestic ones. The author examines the development of artificial intelligence in film and television production, which allows to restore images, develop scripts, imitate voices and create so-called visual “deep fakes”. The study analyzed the content of documentaries in which neural networks were used in one form or another. The interview with representatives of the professional community — a documentary filmmaker and the creator of a neuro-creative agency — explores the main issues of using neural networks in documentary filmmaking and the prospects for their widespread introduction into film production in the coming years. Moral, ethical and legislative aspects of the use of neural networks in documentary filmmaking were also addressed.
