Abstract

Чтобы сформулировать условия, необходимые для осуществления общей реформы образования, автор исследует роль культуры в образовании в исторической перспективе. Организованное обучение является неотъемлемой характеристикой человека как вида, но школы возникают только тогда, когда множество людей начинают проживать поблизости друг от друга и пользоваться технологиями, позволяющими создавать избыточный продукт. Школьное образование связано с развитием институциональных иерархий и моделей культурного обмена, которые ассоциируются с письменностью и учетом, оно отражает усиление политико-экономического расслоения в обществе. Анализируя ряд стратегий, нацеленных на изменение основ школьного образования, автор раскрывает причины ограниченности их влияния. Происходящие в современном мире глобальные изменения могут, по его мнению, стать источником фундаментальной реорганизации образования. (Почётная лекция AERA 2010 г.)
