
This thesis by compendium of publications gathers the research carried out for the valorization of agro-industrial organic wastes through their recycling. For this purpose, vermicomposting, also called composting by earthworms, has been used, as it is a nature-based technique, relatively simple in terms of handling and low cost, which allows the bioxidation of this organic matter aerobically to obtain a final product reusable in the primary sector as a natural fertilizer, which contributes to the reduction of emissions in the current climate context and promotes the circular economy at regional, local or even internal level in the organizations that generate these organic wastes of agro-industrial origin. The wastes used during this research were coffee silverskins and spent coffee grounds from coffee industry organizations, lavender from an organization that grows and extracts essential oils for perfumery, and hops from an organization that grows, prepares hops and extracts lupulin for the brewing industry. In addition, horse manure from a horse riding and equine therapy center was used as a control or control waste. In this research, the biological behaviors of the annelids of the species Eisenia andrei when feeding on the agro-industrial organic wastes used have been analyzed, such as the degree of development (weight gain and/or growth rate), the degree of sexual maturity, the production of coconuts, the birth of offspring and the mortality rate. All these trials have resulted in the publication of the three articles included in this thesis. For the realization, two types of tests were designed, small and medium scale, based on the scientific literature. To assess the suitability or not of the waste, biological parameters directly related to the life cycle of the earthworm Eisenia andrei were taken into account. In addition, germination tests were also carried out on the vermicompost obtained to ensure the absence of any phytotoxicity of the products obtained. The results obtained were diverse. While coffee residues were poorly accepted by earthworms and had high mortality rates, lavender proved to be a highly palatable residue, performing better than horse manure. In all cases, the germination tests carried out with both coffee vermicomposts and lavender were positive, which proved that all these new products were stable and suitable for use as natural fertilizers. Regarding the hops, it turned out to be a harmless residue, since the survival was total, but with a medium palatability because it did not exceed the different values of the parameters studied for manure. Finally, it is also worth highlighting the obtaining of a utility model as a result.
