The article reviews the monograph of L. N. Poluboyarinova on the origins, foundations and key parameters of the reception of I. S. Turgenev in Austria. The monograph examines the genre comparison of Austrian prose (novels “Venus in Furs” (1870) by L von Sacher-Masoch, “Dissonances” (1901) and “Ginevra” (1892)by F. von Saar, as well as the novel by M. von Ebner-Esсhenbach “Fritzens Ball” (1910)) with Turgenev's novels and novels “Spring Water”, “Notes of a Hunter”, “Fathers and Sons”, etc. Genre comparison of the German short story and the Turgenev story is of no small importance in it. The monograph of L. N. Poluboyarinova also tracesthematic (themes of hunting, nature, love), typological (Schopenhauerianism, steppe discourse) and genetic convergence (reminiscences, adaptations, variations, paraphrases) of Turgenev's prose and texts of Austrian writers.
