Abstract

Le B’nai B’rith ou Fils de l’Alliance est l’organisation humanitaire juive la plus ancienne et la plus vaste au monde. Créé en 1843 à New York par des immigrés juifs francs-maçons d’origine allemande, il s’attacha dès ses débuts à soulager la misère des travailleurs juifs et de leurs familles et à signifier la judéité par les symboles et les valeurs. Il se développa rapidement aux États-Unis où il créa des institutions de bienfaisance et favorisa l’expansion des Juifs dans le pays.La première loge européenne fut créée à Berlin en 1882. Le B’nai B’rith est organisé en districts nationaux autonomes, éventuellement regroupés de manière informelle en fédérations.Il eut à lutter contre l’antisémitisme et à compenser matériellement ses conséquences violentes et meurtrières. Il eut également à atténuer les souffrances de la population de l’État d’Israël au cours de nombreux attentats ou au cours des guerres. Symbole de sa vocation universaliste, il collecta des sommes importantes pour les catastrophes naturelles ou les coûts humains des guerres de par le monde et soutint une équipe israélienne, Israid, intervenant sur place.
