The article is devoted to the influence of the Polish popular science historical literature on the formation of anti-Ukrainian statements among average Poles. The 70th anniversary of events in Volhynia was celebrated, which led to the increased attention to the revision of Ukrainian-Polish relations in 2013. Another factor of increasing interest is the growth of nationalist views of Ukrainians after the Revolution of Dignity and in the conditions of the Donbass War. The differences between scientific and popular science literature are analyzed on the examples of separate popular «Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia» and OUN activities. The author emphasizes the specific features of this literature, which may negatively affect the formation of the image of the Ukrainian: vivid and not very tolerant statements, loud headlines, a provocative goal, a selective approach to the sources, the use of oral recollections of eyewitnesses and participants of the events as the main source and a great number of non-professional training authors. An important feature is their considerable subjectivity and personal connection with the described events, since many of them have relatives who were directly affected by the «Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia». There are examples to illustrate the complication of highlighting painful historical issues through popular science publications and the problems of their validity. In many mentioned works, the development of modern Ukrainian nationalism is compared to the activities of the OUN in the 1940s, and may de facto cause the reader to regard different historical situations to be equal. It is worth to mention the conscious or unconscious nature of such historical distortion. The emphasis is placed on the social responsibility of authors of popular science publications in relation to a wide readership. The idea about the powerful influence of the tendentious and prejudice of the authors of popular scientific historical publications on the formation of the negative image of Ukrainians in the eyes of Poles is justified, which significantly complicates the positive perception of the neighbouring people.

Стаття присвячена впливу польської науково-популярної історичної літератури на формування антиукраїнських настроїв серед пересічних поляків. В 2013 р. відзначалися 70-річні роковини подій на Волині, що спричинило посилення уваги до перегляду українсько-польських відносин. Іншим фактором збільшення інтересу виступає ріст націоналістичних поглядів українців після Революції Гідності та в умовах Війни на Донбасі. На прикладах окремих популярних видань тематики «Волинської трагедії» та діяльності ОУН аналізуються відмінності між науковою та науково-популярною літературою. Автором наголошується на особливих рисах цієї літератури, що може негативно впливати на формування образу українця: яскравих і не дуже толерантних висловлюваннях, кричущих заголовках, провокаційній меті, селективному підході до джерел, використання усних спогадів очевидців та учасників подій як основного виду джерела та нефаховій підготовці великої кількості авторів. Важливою рисою є також значна їх суб’єктивність та особистий зв’язок із описаними подіями, оскільки чимало з них мають родичів, що прямо постраждали під час «Волинської трагедії». Наведено приклади, які ілюструють складність висвітлення болючих історичних питань через науково-популярні видання та проблеми їх достовірності. У багатьох згаданих роботах ріст сучасного українського націоналізму порівнюється з діяльністю ОУН 40-их рр. XX ст., і де-факто може викликати в уяві читача знак рівності між різними історичними ситуаціями. Варто зауважити на свідомому чи несвідомому характері такого історичного спотворення. Акцентовано увагу на соціальній відповідальності авторів науково-популярних видань у зв’язку із широкою читацькою аудиторією. Обґрунтовується думка про потужний вплив тенденційного та упередженого ставлення авторів науково-популярних історичних видань на формування негативного образу українців в очах поляків, який значно ускладнює позитивне сприйняття сусіднього народу.
