Crisis Readiness: Revisiting the Distance Framework During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

Embora os pesquisadores do CSCW tenham estudado a colaboração à distância por mais de duas décadas, a escala e o contexto do trabalho distribuído geograficamente durante a pandemia não têm precedentes. Trabalhar em casa como configuração padrão durante a pandemia do COVID-19 oferece uma oportunidade única para a pesquisa do CSCW explorar e desenvolver novos entendimentos sobre o que envolve otrabalho colaborativo distribuído durante uma crise global. Neste artigo, revisitamos o framework de distância, originalmente desenvolvido por Olson e Olson em 2000, por meio de dados empíricos coletados durante os momentos críticos em que a pandemia do COVID-19 foi declarado e o mundo fechou: ou seja, março de 2020. Usamos os dados para interrogar o framework da distância e ampliar uma nova dimensão - Crisis Readiness. Nossa contribuição para a pesquisa CSCW é uma revisita ao framework de distância, que demonstra que, para o trabalho distribuído geograficamente ser bem-sucedido durante uma crise global, os atores em cooperação precisam alcançar um senso de entendimento comum, envolver-se em diferentes tipos de acoplamento de trabalho, estar pronto para a colaboração e o uso de tecnologias de colaboração – e, por último, trabalhe em uma organização que demonstre prontidão para crises.
