Abstract

Axiological neutrality or autonomy of research has a fluctuating history, between excessive isolation of the scientist in his ivory tower and too pronounced commitment. We can certainly give a principle of balance, follow a ridge line between the two ditches. However, it depends on the context. To illustrate this, we go back to a past context (that of a generation) and then address two recent contextualities, those of the pandemic and the war in Palestine.
