A novel fault detection algorithm in parallel transmission line network using discreate current samples

Abstract

The protection of power system plays an important role in present society. It is very essential to protect power system components from faults. The normal relays are not reliable in situations like sudden load changes, switching operations etc., and it is very important to discriminate the faults and transients. The traditional methods are failed in case of parallel transmission line network. In this paper a new fault detection algorithm is proposed to protect parallel transmission line network using current samples only and it is compared with one of the conventional method-sample to sample approach. Finally it is observed that the proposed algorithm is more effective to detect faults in parallel line transmission line system. Simulations are carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
